Dear Friend of GALLIM,

Stone Skipping, the opening work of our yearlong landmark residency at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, fills me with deep pride and gratitude. Gratitude for the Temple of Dendur and its 2,000 years of human history. For MetLiveArts and the Egyptian Department, for generously hosting us as a part of their visionary programming. For the 23 artists who brought GALLIM’s 10th anniversary work to life — from the Company and The Juilliard School dancers to fashion designer Jose Solis, composer Phil Kline, and the string quartet Firewood. For the many museum visitors and students, who caught a glimpse of our creative process during our eight free open rehearsals at the Temple. For our audience, both seasoned dance-goers and those new to dance — nearly 500 who filled the seats and over 100 thousand more who viewed the livestream on Facebook. For our Board and all of our supporters. You are all an essential part of GALLIM’s community and for that, we are deeply thankful.

Working alongside the Temple of Dendur over the last several months reinforced my commitment to making art. Through this creative process, I witnessed GALLIM as a platform for pursuing a bold, transformative vision that transcends disciplinary boundaries, sparking opportunities to engage diverse artistic collaborations and audiences, and fostering dialogue about our role as living creatures, humans, and agents of civilization. Now more than ever, I am driven to push my art and company forward by continuing to dive into GALLIM’s collaborative practice and partner with innovative artists, thinkers, and ideas that can provoke and channel cultural change.

A deep part of our human quest for meaning has been born and shaped by live action such as storytelling, theater, dance, and music. I feel exhilarated to be representing this immense well of our cultural heritage by bringing embodiment and performance to an eminent house of art such as the Met. The artist and the human being are present in each moment of our residency, transforming the museum’s galleries and the experience of museum-goers, dance fans, and more. Guided by those values, GALLIM looks forward to continue making an impact during 2018 with transformative works both in NYC and beyond. But we can’t do it without you.  I ask you now to be a part of GALLIM by making a contribution today.

  • In NYC: Join us in May 2018 as GALLIM takes over the fifth floor of the Met Breuer. As GALLIM becomes the art on exhibit, I look forward to collaborating with London-based video designer Tal Rosner, US filmmaker Ben Stamper, and company members to create an ongoing installation in dialogue with the Breuer’s exhibit, Like Life: Sculpture, Color, and the Body, and exploring art history’s portrayal of the human body.
  • Internationally: GALLIM looks forward to returning to longtime partner Les Grand Theatres de la Ville de Luxembourg in June 2018, marking our third visit. With essential commissioning support from the Theatre, we will present our 10th Anniversary work, Stone Skipping, as it continues a life of performance after the Met.

And more to come! Contributions from you, our family of supporters, are more vital than ever as GALLIM lays the foundation for our future. I ask you to make a 2017 year-end contribution so we can enliven spaces, bring our vision of dance to myriad of stages, and make inquiries that enrich the lives of audiences.

Thank you for being a part of GALLIM and thank you for believing in the power of art and culture. With your continued support, we are looking forward to an extraordinary 2018.

With warm wishes,

Andrea Miller
